Longwood Gardens

October 10th, 2011 by kimly

On Sunday, October 2, 2011 I spent the day at Longwood Garden in Kennett Square, PA. It had rained in the early morning but was dry when we arrived around 10am. Turns out, it is only 1.5 hrs from my house, so I may start making the trip more often.

It was still overcast during our morning wanderings to the Italian Water Garden. The landscape shots have a distinctly washed out feel to them and many of the macro flower shots show the water drops still on the petals. The afternoon was a washout as it began raining while we were in the conservatory and continued throughout the afternoon.

The biggest disappointment of the day was learning the Simon Pearce glass blowing operation and restaurant just up the road in West Chester, PA closed down in February 2011. The only restaurant is now in VT at Quechee – a bit of a hike for a weekend lunch.
